Shoutout to Danny Emge for turning my fifth place medal into a fourth place medal.
Chess is a fascinating game. Malcolm X said that you do not truly know someone until you have played them at chess. Confucius said that you can sac pieces, as long as you have compensation.
I hereby announce my retirement from the game of chess. Though I remained an 1100 throughout my two year tenure of playing chess, I would like to think that I learned a little something from all these hours of staring at a board.
It is with this final post that I bid farewell to the chess community that ridiculed me after my failures and congratulated me after my successes, the chess community that was so toxically competitive that many of my friendships became increasingly strained, the chess community that bombarded me with unconstructive criticism that pressured me into studying the game of chess, the chess community that was such an important part of my high school life and became an irremovable part of myself.
