Surprised

"After 20 years as the World Chess Federation (FIDE) President Kirsan Ilyumzhinov today withdrew from “any legal, financial and business operations of FIDE”. Deputy President Georgios Makropoulos will take over as acting president while Ilyumzhinov fights to get himself removed from the US Treasury Sanctions list over alleged transactions with Syria"

Do you know anything about the Deputy Makropoulos? The article says he has been running FIDE day to day for 30 years, so don't expect any changes.

I don't. At least not anytime soon. Still, the FIDE president stepping down from his position seems like a bit of news that would be of interest to folks here, so I posted it here because I did not see anything else about it (had not noticed the news item on the front page yet).

We were close friends some 35 years ago, but this is not the only mistake I have made in my life.

nah, he'll come back in no time claiming he was again kidnapped by aliens of some sort.

I believe alien abductions actually occur and is a subject very important to examine.Wether this gentleman has been abducted is a separate but related matter. Obviously for those that don't it's a good subject for ridicule since it is extraordinary.

Doesn't make sense for something advanced enough to travel light years to sneak around on cloudy moonless nights and abduct people with mental and/or drug problems.

the guy looks like an alien, why would they abduct their own ?

then the MIB erased his memory, totally believeable.

Although Ilyumzhinov's method may be a bit more tactful than holding a press conference and spitting on a state department letter.
