I'm learning from the computer!

I gave it a rook, and gave myself a queen. It's rook laughed at me, and just paced back and forth on the 4th rank and would not let my king come near its king. I tried checking its king with my queen, but it was no use. I could not fork it. Then I gave it a queen and myself a rook, and tried to repeat what it had done to me. Its queen went after my king and forked my king and rook very quickly. Strangly, it could have forked them a move sooner, but missed that. Either way, I now know how to force the fork.

Never mind. I don't know how to force the fork. I just now how to get the king to the side of the board. But the computer got a draw off me by 3x repetition. Caught me be surprise there.

I have a queen on d1, king on f2, and it has a king on e6 and a rook on h4. If I bring my king forward, it just moves its rook back and forth and won't let it pass. It beat me by sending its queen after my king and eventually forking. I tried that, and this is what happened:

(Note: with proper play, black is supposed to set up a fortress on the 6th rank, which is where black can hold ground unless white makes perfect, counterintuitive moves. The computer seems to prefer toying with seperate rook and king, though.)

It's probably the hardest "basic" forced checkmate, more so than bishop and knight vs king. The difficulty (at least someone who knows how to avoid queen forks) lies in that even when you advance your king and queen that doesn't guarantee progress, because if you do it a certain way black always has these weird stalemate tricks. You have to force this very specific position where just somehow black has to allow 6 checks and then a fork is finally forced at the end of it all.
