Imaginary chess: if you could invent a totally new piece to chess, what it could it be?

A piece that can't go to a specifical square, if it does, the piece's owner wins the game. it would move like a pawn but also diagonally, 1 square per move. It makes no sense but could be fun

The Percheron. A superknight that captures everything in its L-shaped path. Purely because I'm quite a fan of those - any big powerful draft horse really - and I'd like a chess piece based on one.

The wooden chess piece should also have a thick neck with visible muscle bulges like an actual Percheron.

The Checkmater. It goes on whites team and automatically takes the black king

This is the most op one by far

It would be a ThrillerMO, it's characteristics would be :

  • Powers like a knight but stronger
  • Powers like a pawn but stronger
  • Powers like a bishop but stronger
  • Powers like a Queen but stronger
  • Can be checked like a king
  • Powers like a rook but slightly weaker

Maneuverability options :

  • One knight jump away
  • One square up
  • Any square on the rank that it's positioned in
  • Any square diagonal in any direction
  • Any square diagonal from a square up to 3 squares directly behind it in any direction
  • En-passant with pawns, bishops, or knights next to it

What to do when reaches end of board :

  • Promote to any other piece and use powers to make up to 3 moves to either: check or capture

The ThrillerMO starts on the e-square on the back rank and in the beginning moves 3 squares diagonal from 3 squares to the right of that square if being moved on move 1

If one sides ThrillerMO checks the other sides ThrillerMO e.g. White plays ThrillerMO e1-g1-d4 and Black plays ThrillerMO e8-g8-d5 then the ThrillerMO after capturing can impersonate the enemy sides queen shoot the pieces on the diagonals of the side whos enemy queen the ThrillerMO is impersonating from that square then go to the most vacant enemy corner on the enemy backrank promote to a queen , capture a pawn , detonate all enemy pawns and then return to e1 and automatically demote itself to a king giving the side who captured the other sides ThrillerMO two kings .

The Pope- he can run around the board and convert the opposing players to play for you.

Converting enemy soldiers to your soldiers exists in Shogi.

And Crazyhouse and Diplomat Chess.

Big rock with like needles poking out.

Covers 3x3 square space

if any unit touches it they downgrade, i.e queen to rook , rook to bishop or knight and bishop or knight to pawn. If king or pawn touch it they DIE

It starts in the middle and moves in any direction any 3 turns.

Carpet bomb piece.

Moves like a pawn. and can carpet bomb in a knight move around it.

Shil0hye11

the clown: looks like a pawn, but if taken it explodes all the surrounding pieces in a 3x3 area.

GrandmasterofKings
The Sleepy Joe: Can move like a queen+a knight up to 2 moves

How about the "Rift Knight"? It has the combined moves of a knight and a rook. This unique piece can leap over other pieces and move like a rook in straight lines. It would add a dynamic and strategic element to the game. What new piece would you create? The Kamikaze

replaces one of your own pawns, but the opponent must not know which one it is at the start of the game. In online chess, the symbol for the Kamikaze would be a normal pawn with dynamite strapped to their chest. if you want to use this piece in a real chess game, simply place a piece of tape or something underneath the pawn of your choice, just make an indication that's invisible to your opponent.

What it does: the Kamikaze looks and moves exactly like a normal pawn, but it does not capture like a normal pawn. Whenever it captures an opponent's piece or gets captured itself, an explosion is triggered that destroys everything in a 3x3 area. It basically functions like an atomic mode pawn. With one major difference being that other pawns also get blown up.

The Kamikaze also does not promote like a normal pawn would, instead. Upon reaching the back row, the piece will explode the back row itself! All pieces still on that row will be gone and the back row will not be habitable for the rest of the game.

One more thing, if either king gets blasted by these explosions, they will be considered checkmated and the other player wins the game.

What if both kings are exploded at once?

I think it should be illegal to explode your own king, just like in atomic.

I would make the bowman: Can attack anything 2 squares away, as they are not good at close quarters combat, but cant see too far away. Also, they will be similar to bishops, in that they can only attack certain color squares, with the bowman only being able to attack squares that are the opposite color of the square they are currently on (just to balance it).
