Hi!

I lost today a game which went 1.d4 e6 2.c4 d5 3.Nc3 Be7 4.Bf4 Nf6 5.e3 0-0 6.Nf3 c5 7.dxc5 Bxc5 8.cxd5 exd5 9Be2 Nc6 10.0-0 Be6 11,Rc1 Rc8 12.a3 a6 13.Nxd5?? where black won the exchange and eventually won.. I was the stupid white(i'm about 2000 my opponent was about 2300)....my question is-what are the best books(or more generally ways!) in your opinion for me to improve my calculation skills so that a disaster like the above will not happen again?

(i'm reposting since there was a discussion on the position rather than my original question. I'm looking for answers from people who CAN tell that Nxd5? is 0-1)

Thx,Yoni

I'm by no means an expert on any of this stuff, but is your question really about calculation ability or visualization ability?

I can't imagine you can get to 2000+ ratings without being able to calculate adequately, but I could see visualization still being weak.

I thought that to calculate well,which i don't,I need to visualize well,and if i visualize well i calculate well...am i wrong?!

I'm not strong enough to offer advice, but I'd like to understand what your mistake was : when did you stop your calculations : after Rxc5, after Nxf4 or further down the line ?

Because it's not the same kind of mistake.

[This is a spoiler if u didn't yet solve the original position, with white to move and lose after Nxd4 :)]

hicetnunc I stopped it after Qxd5 Qxd5 Nxd5 Rxc5 Nxf4 exf4,concluding that i won a pawn...but i also have to note that positions look to me kind of "foggy"or "blurry" after 6-7 moves. so maybe i didnt see the further Nd4! because of the fact that the e pawn in the original position protected d4...

So what can u say now about the best way for me to improve?
