I have been playing competitively for about 4-6 months, and i have not seen much improvement, what ways can i improve my game? Also, recently i have been on a losing streak, any ways to get off this losing streak?

P.S.

On 30 minute games, my rating is about 1000, and my blitz rating sucks.

Hi Jacobelm,

Playing is a great way to help yourself improve, but there are other ways that help as well. Firstly, reading a good chess book is a great idea. Secondly, Tactics are wonderful to learn. Chess.com has a free tactic trainer where you can do 3 a day, so I would suggest trying those often. If you have a smart phone or tablet there is also "Tactic Trainer" which is a free app. There is also the free website called "Chess Tempo" which is all tactics as well. Some people say "Chess is 100% tactics", which is definitly not true, but it shows how important learning tactics can be. I hope that helps.

jacobelm,

Many of the best features offered at this site are only available to premium members. You need to subscribe to Chess.com at a level which will allow you to participate in improving your chess. I suggest you click on "Membership" and decide which features you want to use. There are many features available to you such as "Chess Mentor" and "Chess Videos".

Cheers,

Don

I agree with watching chess videos. There are a lot of good ones. I really enjoy some videos about openings, especially "Chess Openings by Dereque Kelley"
