It's sort of funny...I know my game is improving yet I hardly ever win.  So I get satisfaction knowing I'm getting better at something that is very challenging to me despite the losses.

this reminds me of a lesson i learned about jiu jitsu (that also applies to chess): you may not beat all the people that beat you because they are also improving, but once in a while, go against someone that doesnt train. you will see all the hard work immediately.

This reminds me of a big tournament I played in once. I was rated a little over 1400, but instead of playing in the U1600 section, I played in the U1800 section to learn from playing against better players. I had a bye one round, and the TD paired me to play a game against someone who had a bye in another section that round - a guy with an 1825 rating who had the bye in the U2000 section. He told me it was his first tournament since returning to the game after an extended absence. That was the one and only game that I won in that tournament.
