Surprised at the "hate" stuff, this was very much on the comical light hearted side... and all for chess.com too. I'm with dpruess on this one:
terrific!!

By the way, punk led to some of the most amazing aesthetic experiments of the 20th century; one need only listen to The Raincoats' three albums to see this. And honestly, if you don't think rap has any aesthetic merit/is all the same, go listen to ALL CAPS to see how laughable that idea is. Be some turkeys on this site for sure.

Yes, yes it did. But, the point I was trying to make about punk still holds true. And that is that the level of musicianship required to play most punk songs is relatively low. That's not to say it's bad, or its good or make any judgements about it at all, just to say that's what it is. Asthetically, there's no way to make any sweeping judgements about punk, rap or any other types of music, as it is totally subjective.
I'm glad my guess (that you hadn't heard them) was right. I first discovered them as the result of their music being used for the backing to this BMX video - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A2LTVhqHAdo
I wouldn't expect anyone not into hip-hop to have heard of them, but to comment so broadly on the genre without knowledge of the most critically acclaimed example from your own country... well, it just seems unfairly pre-judgemental.
In fairness and curiosity" I watched the bmx video ( youtube link ) and listened to the end , which i don"t do if it doesn"t grab me quickly . In wikipaedia the mention of triple j drew my interest , In the early seventies i had a smoke -thai (but did not inhale ) and listened to the 1st double j broadcast by Holga Brockman and crew , have seen us rap videos and they seem to be all the same , beat / must have multiple gold chains / ghetto scenes . Did like eminem"s music , growing up on / the doors / stones / clapton / easybeats /renee geyer / skyhooks , and others - i guess i am guilty of pre-judgement and apologise to all . i will check other songs by the Hilltop Hoods at Myspace . DID LIKE THE SONG , so maybe you can teach an old dog new tricks . Cheerio .
The video boys promo gets mad props,
But playing Chess Gangsta is playing black ops.
Marshall Attack, Benko or Bennoni,
Rook and pawn endings, he's not a phoney.
But Gangsta likes the ladies, this is true,
When he's not playing chess, that's what he do.
Rolling in his Escalade, he's a star
With fine ladies, Cristal and caviar.
Shorties shout out rolling on the south side,
He the man no doubt banging the west side.
Chess is the birth place of the Gangsta's fame,
But he can play a different kind of game.
I liked it, for whatever that is worth. It's funnier when rap has an intellectual bent to it, such as the Epic Rap Battle of History between Einstein and Hawking.
The Video and Rap were very well done !! According to my nieces husband a (film-director) who is currently working full-time in the proffession. GOOD-LUCK !!

A quick google search would have told you otherwise!
Funny how they are unheard of by so many young people , Famous ! yeah right .
Your sample size is what? Two? Three? All of whom probably listen to similar music by virtue of travelling in the same social circle?
I think maybe you need to do a wider survey before you can say "so many young people" haven't heard of them.
