Inability to play games - apparent chess.com problems

For the last few days I've been having some very strange problems with chess.com (running in an up to date chrome browser on my windows 10 desktop - also fully patched).  I've been unable to play a great number of games.  When I click on play a new 5 minute game, most times the board that appears has my Rapid 10 minute rating shown instead of my 5 minute rating and my opponent is just shown as Opponent. Here I was unable to make any move as white against an unknown opponent... and I lose due to auto resign because of not making a move.  If I subsequently go to my games listing it shows I lost points for not playing.  Interestingly, it shows the opponents names which I never did see. 

Has anyone else been experiencing this issue?  I've even received a message about being restricted from challenging people due to fair play violations because of this problem!
