intentional disconnection versus bad internet connection

Is there a way for the system to know if a player has stopped playing because he or she has bad internet connection rather than just disconnecting and being a bad sport? I had connections issues earlier (my name and clock started to flash) but there was a message that came up that said I would abandon the game if I didn't come back on within a set time. I'd hate to have my account restricted or to be branded as someone who disconnects intentionally due to connection issues.
