Interest in Fischer Random (or chess 960) becoming a USCF-rated (and maybe FIDE-rated) variant

If I recall correctly, Bobby Fischer near the end of his life didn't like chess as much because a lot of standard chess is just memorization (in terms of the openings) and that probably just got boring to him.  I am sure he is not the only one who feels that way.  That's probably how Fischer Random (or chess 960) came to be.  With Fischer random, it can truly test someone's skills and see how good they actually are and just not memorize a bunch of opening lines since the sequence of pieces at the bottom rank is not constant.

I wonder if there is any interest in Fischer Random (or chess 960) [FR] becoming a USCF-rated variant at some point in time (possibly FIDE-rated).   Like standard chess, it would have three sub-category ratings:  FR Standard, FR Quick, FR Blitz.

Any thoughts on this?
