@smurph... which of Melikset Khachi-etc.etc.'s lectures do you recommend?
International Chess School
I like where he is talking about his own games. He explains in one of them that Petrosian placed great emphasis on studying your own games not one or two hours but much more. These games I feel says Melikset.
For example the lesson how to change the course of a game.He does give good tips like it says beside it as well as giving great guide to closed sicilian.I have 2 books and ICS notes on this opening and I found this the clearest guide to it.

Is it free?
No. Although they have a free 1 week or 2 week trial for first time people (can't remember how long it is).
The lessons cost as much as the particular player charges though -- I've never taken lessons on ICC so I have no idea how much they run. The main draw of ICC though is it's tough field of players. Not only all the titled players, but the average player in general is pound for pound just a tougher opponent.
If you're looking to improve, chess.com really is (IMO) the best site to be on. They have player-coaches here too I believe. And not only chess mentor and videos, but also forums like the analysis forum where people can give you free real word explanations on what was going on with your game. It may take a lot of work -- but that'll be true no matter where you go.
I agree, and I'm definitly not going to spend another dime trying to learn chess.

Discuss of ICS and some others
I have taken lessons from a range of teachers. It goes from $20 -$100 .Generally the eastern europeans are cheaper -the 100 was a quote from the armenian national coach. Was indignant when I said it was too dear. But maybe he was shaking me off.Usually there are discounts for bulk buying. You can also just play an IM/GM for a fee and they will go throught the game with you generally a $ a minute game so 5 minute game(5 each equals $5) plus brief analysis.
The most popular vendors not always the best as ICC charges fee to vendors so many coaches want to avoid that so they teach elsewhere.I have lessons with
It has a bit more than just playing It has some video lessons on line, openings, looking at games etc.
Playchess is another site like ICC but I have no experience there.
As I said I think some of the video lessons here are fantastic some on chess lectures and game analysis on chess publishing .I cant get over Melikset's lectures here.
GM Ziatdinov wrote 8 very interesting articles on silman's site about chess and improving.Worth a look.
