iOS app - bar chart/signal icon top right?

Hello. In the iOS app there's sometimes (e.g. when playing blitz games) an icon visible in the top right - to the right of the chess.com heading - showing four vertical bars (like a signal-strength indicator). Tapping or holding it doesn't seem to do anything and I was wondering what it was for?
