IQ AND GM

Chess ≠ intelligence ≠ IQ
If 13 year olds can be GM without 180 IQ then adults can be GM with ~100 IQ. Probably even less. It doesn't matter.

do you know GM with 100 iq?
Unnecessary.
Anyway, as much as websites all over like to make up people's IQ... even when those people have publicly said they've never taken an IQ test, the German magazine Der Spiegel made efforts to have Kasparov's IQ tested. He agreed, and scored 135, which is very good, I believe in the 98th percentile.

The highest possible IQ is 162 which is 11-year old Owen Dunn's IQ.Even Einstein had IQ like 160.I have an IQ of 129 and that's really very very very good. You have even more than my IQ so I think that it's good.
IQ is generally not related to chess much(I say MUCH OK).So, I think that you should focus on chess and not on your IQ
There are all sorts of problems with IQ tests, but if it gives you any comfort, 130 should not be referred to as "only 130". By this estimate, it puts you in the top 2.2%.
What should you do about it? Apply that huge brain to studying chess. Good luck.
If you want something more academic to put you at ease, here is an Oxford University paper. From the abstract:
- "Although practice had the most influence on chess skill, intelligence explained some variance even after the inclusion of practice. When an elite subsample of 23 children was tested, it turned out that intelligence was not a significant factor in chess skill, and that, if anything, it tended to correlate negatively with chess skill. This unexpected result is explained by a negative correlation between intelligence and practice in the elite subsample."
How do you get to Carnegie Hall?
By being stupid, as some of the "brilliant" contributors to this thread have "proven".

Most of the internet IQ tests top out at 135, which still seems too high for anyone who would take an internet IQ test. On the other hand, IQ and sense are different animals.

It is good to have goals and interests at your age. Unfortunately, the limitations of being 16 are lack of experience and wisdom. You really should discuss your GM goal with your parents and a guidance counselor at school for direction.
No one on any kind of enthusiast website forum, including a chess enthusiast forum, can know how that particular interest (or any other relatively meaningless activity/hobby/sport/game/pasttime) fits in the rest of your whole life, almost all of which will be more important in the future. The fact that you care about two numbers that are relatively unimportant in the grand scheme of life - your IQ and your chess rating - indicate a typical youthful lack of perspective.
I would suggest that furthering your education and the development of social skills would probably be better areas to which you might devote your energies, time and attention. Perhaps joining the school chess club might be the most appropriate compromise step in that direction.

I believe your IQ is OK to be GM but I also believe that you need a good coach or join good chess club.

Hello, i am 16 years old boy, and i want to became GM, my rating is 1300-1400, i never had coach.
My iq is only 130, and i am worried about this, i think it's not enough to be GM, and what can you say about this?
A high IQ is good, but chess is more about pattern recognition then raw intelligence.
Bluntly speaking at your age your current rating does not point to you being extraordinarily talented at chess unless you only learned it very recently.
Also, as we have the question "can I become a GM ?" quite often on these boards, I have come to the conclusion that if someone has to ask, he probably does not have an exceptional talent for chess.
And lastly, becoming a GM takes a lot of WORK, every day, even for the talented players. You would need to dedicate your life to it. Can you both do that and support yourself financially while you do it ?

Wtf, I don't think you really have an IQ of 129, otherwise you would know that IQ tests differ in maximum scores and 162 is an arbitrary number at best to be the highest for an IQ test. Google it/Youtube it.
