No.
IQ= Chess skill?

There may be some correlation, but it's not causal.
That said, I've not seen much to give me any real care about IQ testing in general.

I've met a few people with an IQ above 150, most of them just suffers from inflated ego and are dumb enough to take internet tests to seriously.

Lmao internets tests are giant loads of BS. Specifically I've got a 40 point diff from them (101-142)

I read Jonathan Levitt Genius of chess and he related IQ to ELo but not so strictly. After years of training! I segnale also GM Igor Smirnov issue on Chess talent. See his site

I don't think so. While it's true chess can raise IQ, and Kasparov and Fischer have IQs that make them "SUPERGENIUS MUTHA," I have a score of 152 and I'm not that good. I've seen people who score as low as 90 demolish me and even 160+ people.
What do you guys think?
My advice is to stick with it. I, for one, don't really believe there's a direct correlation between chess ability and IQ so I wouldn't let your low IQ discourage you. You may well be able to excel at this game in spite of it.

Its pretty obvious that there is some correlation between the two. You look at the two prime examples, Fischer and Kasparov bother had IQs over 180. But besides high IQ you need to have a strong work ethic to really excel at chess. I do think that someone with a below average IQ can only go so far but for people with average intelligence there is no reason they can't hit master level or maybe FM.
People never reach their full potential in chess --- so how the heck could we know for sure? There may potentially be some kind of correlation. Maybe. Possibly. Definitely can't be discarded.

^^^ Pretty big discussion on this topic. No definite conclusions, but a good discussion. I'm going to have some ice cream later tonight.

Of course IQ is a great indicator of intelligence in any field, because it (simply and abstractly) tests your abilitity to reason by association, which when you think about it... all reasoning boils down to.

Maybe we should discuss the relationship between ice cream and chess. It would certainly be a flavorful discussion
Back to the main topic- I do believe there's a correlation, but I definitely think IQ does not equal chess skill.

For some reason, I do not see the reasoning behind your reasoned reasoning. Maybe we need some seasoning. GatheredDust, go ahead and gather some dust / ice cream seasoning. 'Tis the season to be jolly. And scream for ice cream!

I already had my ice cream tonight- coffee flavor
Lots of pure, raw reasoning skill doesn't necessarily convert to lots of chess skill. It depends on the type of person and the brain. It's a great indicator of intelligence, but not specifically intelligence in specific fields.

I know when you are white, you win because you are white, but when you are black, you win because you are Bugolbujow!!

IQ's a small portion of overall intelligence. All mentioned in the article. So that could narrow it down a bit. ;)

^^^ So it doesn't get lost immediately. I'll leave before this turns into spamming (although I may put some spam in my ice cream).
