Is 1100 considered a respectable and above average rating?

1100 is a respectable rating. It is not like you are an expert at chess, however you are not extremely good. At 700 elo, you are below average however at 1400, you are 95th percentile, (better than 95 out of 100 people on average). At 1100, you are in the middle, which I would consider respectable

These percentiles are not accurate because people make multiple accounts to mess around with and leave them low rated. In reality the average is much higher, atleast 1000+

You do have a fair point there, I was very skeptical with the statistics, however, I still think that 1100 is respectable. 1400 is definitely a major skill jump, however I find 1100s to be as strong as 1200s.

1100 rating is terrible. At that range, most games are just decided by who can take the most hanging pieces. It's even worse for Daily because lots of people lose on time.

I think you confused 1100 with 600. 1100´s can get pretty decent accuracies and games, and it usually comes down to pawns, or maybe even pawn structures. endgame knowledge and predicting moves is vital at this level. Take it from a 1200 (rapid) that knows what it´s like to play at the 1100 level. I feel 1100 is decent but still room for improvement.

Like your almost not a beginner but not quite good enough to be in the middle sorta cause that's what I was thinking ?

But yes 1200s hang pieces all the time lol occasionally they play well but they choke under pressure alot like they play decently some games but miss alot of stuff

Ziryab

When a 1200 produced a nice three move combination that won a pawn, I was suspicious. Later, however, his game fell apart in what should have been a drawn ending.

Hello! Hoping for answers

If you look at the Leaderboards, the average blitz rating is 629. So yes, 1100 is well above the average.

In rapid, the average is 623.

The bullet average is 588.

I dislike when people downvote something that is simply a matter of fact... OP asked about average, and justbefair quotes the literal average.

Now, I'd probably make the case that "average" is misleading, but downvoting makes no sense.

Lol I don't downvote usually but I agree it's misleading cause if you think about it in otb you would probably be average or worse if you were 1200

That's usually why I say casually your good at chess but competitively your more or less almost a beginner maybe a tad bit advanced but probably not good enough to be competing for money yet (mostly for fun and to improve )

good

1100s are really bad as if u dont hang pieces u can get to 1400 easily

In 30 minute rapid games 11-1200´s rarely hang pieces. in blitz sometimes we hang. but calling us ¨terrible¨ and ¨who can take the most hanging pieces¨ is very much wrong, as well as rude

I can adopt 1600s down a piece hanging pieces is not the issue lol (even tho it helps and you should try not to hang them that does help you get better at chess )

Even in rapid lol I see 2000s hang pieces all the time even if it's torward the move 10-30 mark actually I got a 2100-2200 hang a queen in 6-10 moves to one d5

Odonovans

1100 is average here. Don't worry about elo it will ruin chess for you. I'm 1320 rapid, and I know my elo is garbage. I started focusing on elo, and it ruined the game for me. Play to enjoy the game and your elo will take care of its self.

Lol maybe there an extension that can hide the elo

But yes a lot of people just get stuck on elo and not actually playing the game plus you tilt more which makes you lose more ..though usually I gain help after I got out of my tilt so somehow I feel like tilting as long as your not stuck in usefull sometimes you learn more things when you lose (of course that's usually learning something new as you typically suck at it first )

good

Raly hard to do but yes if you don't it's hard to lose

Some 1600s don't even hang a peice they just hang a square then their position colapses (then hang preices when it collapsed )

I wouldn't say you guys are terrible I just wouldn't say you guys are "good " either but im pretty sure I thought I was pretty bad and blundering peices /squares all the time when i was 1600-1900 lol

No hard feelings this was just my experience going up the rating ladder lol
