1500 is like 95%. You would be better then 95% of all chess players here. Given how strong all the players are here that's pretty good even if you have played many yrs.

its more then 95%

Yo! I am 1547 rapid and I have a percentile of like 97.2%!

I started about 1½ years ago. I think that if you are 1500 after playing for like 5 years, then that is bad.

Also, it is all relative.

There are different ways of playing chess.

One is: Learn the rules, move pieces, learn a few openings without any theory and just build up your game and react to crazy stuff your opponent do. Thats what most people do at 1k elo to 1200 elo.

After that people start to learn different openings to have more variety and even have the one or other strat they like to play. 1200 - 1500.

Above that people need to study - or play long enough to know where some basic traps are, and how to play them out. 1500-1800.

1800-2000 Needs to study, know endgame basics, know how to transform to get into the endgame, know wich trades are good for you and wich are less likely to be etc..

Its all about how much commitment you put into the game, and what you expect from it. If you study chess 5 years full time and are at 1500 elo? Thats bad. But seriously who does that ? % of the player and they are faar above. Dont compete yourself to others, compete yourself to your past. If you want to improve. If you dont care about the elo keep playing for fun, limittest and see how faar you get while enjoying it and not feeling the need to throw your PC out of the window after losing a game cuz you blundered.
