Stupid Americans don't realise that India was a mass of princely states and empires before colonisation. And it's the size of Europe, more or less. Even stupid Americans know that there are 20 or more languages in Europe.

There are many people who go on this website play few games, or couple of hundred games for fun, never study it and then leave, or play very occasionally. Average of that crowd means nothing. It is like asking who is the average basketball player in your neighborhood and counting every person who lives there. That's not how it works. You should only compare yourself to people who play basketball regurarily, you know the ones who will be on the basketball court every weekend, those who have been doing so for the last 10, 20 years. 
Similar thing in chess would be people in chess clubs. By average chess player I would mean average player in a chess club. 
Median FIDE rating is 1700. I would use that as the average. What is 1700 FIDE rating equivalent to on chess.com ? I don't know.
