2000 elo in chess is first of all hard to get,and those who manage to get them,They can calculate 10-20 moves or mate in 9-15.

So many people get miss led that high level players calculate alot like 9 moves., but it is not true because it’s just impossible(it is possible for Hikaru, but no one has Hikaru’s skill) and you might just forget it. And no 2000 can spot mate in 9-15 even if they are given a year to do so because of all the variations and you have to meorize where the pieces are which are hard. The things that gms do is to see positional moves like trying to get a piece to a good square or trying to ruin the pawn structure or something like that. Just don’t get miss led by that.

Reaching 2000 is an excellent and widely respected milestone that places you in a very high percentile of chess players. While the deep calculation claims might be a slight exaggeration, I always tell my students that what this rating truly signifies is a solid, well-rounded understanding of all phases of the game.

I'm 2400+ (online) and I can do neither of those things.

I can calculate about 2 to 3 moves ahead. And I can find mate in 4 or 5, at the most.

What you're describing is more like something a strong Grandmaster could do ...

Reaching 2000 is more about making basic, fundamental moves to improve your position, jumping on simple 1 or 2-move tactics, and avoiding any serious blunders.

Players with a rating of 2k can calculate really well but definetly not 10-20 moves ahead. Most likely 4-8 moves is the range of calculation for most 2k players. It’s an excellent achievement that shows you are an advanced chess player and it’s rare to make serious blunders or mistakes. 2k players can put their pieces on strong and active squares to slowly outplay their opponents but a lot of games still end due to a missed tactic.

I wish it was mate, I’m just good enough to know quite how much better real players are. I go to tournaments and get beat by kids, and I’ll never be anywhere close to titled. Chess is pain!

Nobody has specified what actual time control we're talking about?

If you're 2000 in Rapid , you're 99,017th out of 66,734,879 players - Top 0.15%

If you're 2000 in Bullet, you're in 44,064th out of 17,258,882 players - Top 0.26%

If you're 2000 in Blitz, you're 91,503rd out of 27,054,864 players - Top 0.34%

Which means it's far more difficult to reach 2000 in Blitz than any other time control, if you're 1800 Blitz, you're probably at least 2000 Rapid, but for me Blitz is the bench mark. A mixture of speed and skill, I'm not there yet., was 1 game away from 1900 twice this week though.

I feel that 2000 Leo is actually good, so don't demotivate yourself.

To be fair, we're all trash compared to Magnus ... Just find the level of trash you'd be happy to reach.

As a master, I’m laughing so hard right now. I only calculate 2 moves ahead but have really good intuition.

I rarely calculate 3+ moves ahead, my head cannot handle it tbh . 2000+ are just good at playing opening theory and spotting tactics. Thats really it. They still blunder their queen from time to time, they still miss knight forks, or mate in 1. Be humble

Judging by results on Chess.com if your silicon dependent, between the age of 15-20, from America, like posing as a someone from a 3rd world country... That's not a hard thing to achieve...

I’m going to be honest, I don’t even consciously calculate, I just play based on intuition

fr, same with me. I only calculate in otb

I can calculate like that. But I can only do it on a real board. 😭

A 2000 rating is in the top 2-4% of players depending on the time control, meaning that in a room of 100 people, 96-98 of them would consider you a ‘good’ player. I guess it depends on your standards and who you choose to compare yourself with, but 2000 is objectively an extremely good rating.

My record calculation was a ten-move sequence that I calculated while solving a lichess puzzle, but it took a lot of mental strength out of me. In my experience around 2000 elo, 10, hell even 5 move calculations are absolutely not a necessary skill to have, and I have never used or needed them to win a game.

2000 means you are stronger than most other players. I am 2000+ and I still do a lot of stupid stuff in my games.

Having a 2000 in chess.com is already impressive but irl is way harder
