Is 2700 tactic ratings normal for a 1200?

That's a solid puzzle rating.

Though it would also suggest that, while you're competent at spotting tactics, you might lack some positional understanding.

There are some great books that teach the fundamentals of positional thinking. At your level, Jeremy Silman's "The Amateur's Mind" and "Reassess your Chess" might be worth looking into.

I'm betting, if you were to work through these books (or other books in a similar vein, dealing with positional play and positional thinking), they'd give you a noticeable rise in your rating. thumbup.png

i love both of those silman books (especially reassess your chess) & can also recommend his 'complete endgame course:  from beginner to master' for learning material.  🙂
