Is a Chess Game More Like a War, or More Like a Battle?

The sentiment in a war is that if you lose it, you'll be screwed forever.  But if you lose a battle, there's always another time... Which side are you on?

Hehe, I play a lot of bullet chess. Those are little spurts of frenzy. If I play bullet, it's akin to a battle. We may play 5 bullet games. Each game is a battle. "Oh I lost this game! Ah , well, IT'S OK NEXT GAME START!!!"

But when two chess GM's sit down for a serious 4 hour game, that is a war. All mentally , though :P'

Well, if you want the one-word summary though - I would say war is the analogy. Chess is "zero-sum" game. Sack the queen, drop the king, skewer and pin. Very much a war-game

Very good point, arazzam... I find it interesting that you prefer bullet chess above other formats...
