P.S. I've played probably thousands of games on this site against many, many opponents and I've never had any reason to believe that my opponent was using an engine.
Is anyone else tired of the complaints about cheating?
Is he a paying member? I doubt it if the guys paying $100-$200 on any chess site online he's just throwing his money away he's going to be banned within hours or days and he knows it.
Not unheard of for people to spend a few bucks for a membership to hussle people but not common free member cheats it's different their like purse snatchers smash and grab types they cheat and take their chances see who they can rob and if they get caught red handed they come back and hussle other people not a bright bunch.
It's up to you to do your home work and choose your opponents wisely on reputation and their record!

Thats the way I see it too. If someone is paired with me then that means their rating is close to mine. Who cares if they need a computer to be as good (or bad!) as I am? I don't - they're going to play at my level anyway. But it's a silly point, because anybody using an engine to make their moves is going to have a much higher rating. This maybe matters to people above 2000 though...

Most accusations are BS however I have sent three folks to chess.com for cheating when I saw at least a three game streak of perfect play. In all cases, the accounts were taken down.
Fair enough, but you're in around 2000. Your definition of perfect play is probably like: every move most accurate. At my level, I struggle for "no blunders", and have never had a full game without atleast "mistakes" on both sides, let alone no "innaccuracies". People at my level just aren't cheating. Yours, maybe...

I agree

I honestly couldn't care less if someone beats me using an engine. Whatever their rating, it's a good indicator of their average playing strength. If their rating has them in my bracket then so be it.

I can assure you the ones MOST tired of cheating complaints is STAFF

This. Lol
I laughed so hard at that. I still am laughing actually.

Several of my opponents have had their accounts closed. They royally toasted me. Apparently they were cheating. So what. I'm here to enjoy playing the game.

Beleive it or not, I was accused of cheating by someone when I was rated 1200!! How dumb!! No one that low cheats!
lol, once this guys whom I had contradicted on a light matter in the forumns arrived at my homepage and yellled at me that no one has a 5000 rated FIDEO rating and I was a stupid cheater! I mean, nobody has an FIDE rating THAT high so obviously it was a joke in my "about me"
Although I have been accused sometimes about cheating since my bullet/blitz rating is so low compared to my correspondance...
I fully agree with the title though!!

I agree with the rest of you about "engine" complaints. But what about time? I just played a game where my opponent's time could never run out ?!? I saw it increase by 10 sec. every time the flag was about to fall :( Who can I report this to?

Most of you are just naive. There are cheaters. They don't cheat all the time, and for 97% of my opponents, I would not suspect them of cheating. But for cheaters, there are often little tell-tale signs.
Apparently, the interface of Chess.com can be "hacked" and an engine connected to it to play on your behalf. It usually doesn't work well I presume, and that is likely the reason when your opponent is constantly disconnecting-reconnecting. Meaning they can only get the engine to play partially.
I played a few guys here who always have this reconnecting-disconnecting issue - they play bullet....and their rating is NOT high. 1400-1700 is the typical range. Most will not suspect them of cheating.
One of them (a Filipino guy), when I questioned him while playing, immediately, the disconnecting-reconnecting STOPPED. And his play became worse....before that, he was beating me most of the time, although I managed to beat him sometimes too (and he usually would lose on time). So, it was hard to say.
Today, his account is closed apparently. I never reported him but I suspected he was cheating (partially at least). He lasted quite a long time here, and I have no doubt, he will be back under a new account.
Do I feel vindicated? I don't know the reason why his account is gone. I never reported the guy. Many people do get accused of cheating. Most of the time, it's off base. I agree it's tiring. Most people who accuse others of cheating are not skillful enough to actually recognize real cheating when it happens.
But rest assured, there ARE cheats here. Constantly disconnecting-reconnecting is but ONE of the signs, which I am pointing out now. Another guy who does this, disables chat for every game....
Will I report him? Nah.....
Maybe I should follow what some of you espouse here. Ignore it and indirectly encourage all these guys. Let the world go down the toilet....
I would bet that very few accusations of cheating are correct. If the accuser is rated below 1800 (and most of them seem to be) the odds are probably 1/1000 that the opponent actually cheated.
And on top of that, how are you harmed by someone cheating? This is a free website and the only thing that happens to you if you get cheated by someone using an engine is that your meaningless online rating is (temporarily) affected.
Have people lost all perspective?
