Is bullet ruining Magnus' game?

He struggled in classical against Caruana, but won the rapid games. Then he took losses in rapid this week while winning blitz. Maybe he is gradually becoming too impatient for classical chess? He plays under various nicknames in bullet and blitz online. And the common wisdom says that a focus on faster time controls causes one's classical game to suffer. Has the champ started losing his attention span for longer games? Discuss.

Caruana, rated 2832, couldn't manage to convert any of his advantages in classical time to wins.  I don't think Carlsen has lost any skills at classical chess.

Of course, I've never had an OTB rating higher than 1634, so my evaluation is based more on results than on tactics and positional chess.

Everyone says that blitz and bullet will rot your chess brain... It seems obvious that Magnus is losing his edge and patience in classical, maybe because he expects a quicker win ... We will see how he does in January eh

I know bullet ruins my slow game, it takes time to adjust back to thinking more slowly. The super GM chess brain is obviously different than mine, but just sayin'.

You can not say that he lost his temper. If so, he could have defeated Caruana in the 12th match of the classic match. It's better to call it strategy. Carlsen is a cold and calculating player and knows how to have good output at the end of the board. I believe that the stress of a whole year makes it prefer to favor a game faster. The human mind has its limits to present its best performance.

I disagree. His amazing ability to hold worse positions (which he got into a couple in the match) clearly shone. Whereas in his match against Karjakin, he failed to keep a clean sheet.

Although visually it appears that he doesn't handle losses or bad things in general to do with chess well, it doesn't appear to impact his play.
