Is Changing From Rapid ( 10min ) To Blitz ( 5 min ) Good To Do?

I've reached my goal of 500 in 10min rapid,

I want to reach the same goal in 5min blitz, then bullet.

Is that good to do?

Let me know

I find that the time controls help me focus on different aspects of the game

If you want to "bring up" your other ratings, then that's something that some chess players do, but I wouldn't recommend that at this stage. Bullet and Blitz chess can condition you into moving quickly and reinforce bad habits like neglecting longer calculation, or not thinking long enough about longer-term planning; speed chess doesn't allow enough time for these things, unless you already have a really high level of pattern recognition. I'd stay with rapid until you get much higher rated. At least 1000+ rating and even then bullet/blitz can still be harmful to your chess improvement.

I'm actually in support of bullet/blitz chess, but how you use it is very important and even then, playing it comes with risks for conditioning your mind into bad habits.

It's also worth mentioning that bullet and blitz (especially if not your main time controls) tend to be several hundred points lower than rapid rating (there are exceptions at the titled player level due to some rating pool nuances and how many people are available for certain time controls at that level). Take my current rating for example; you can see that my blitz is about 500 points lower than my rapid rating and my bullet is even lower than that. This is fairly common. Once you reach 1000+ rapid rating, then your blitz might be something like 800 rating and your bullet something like 500 rating (as an example).

If you want to play bullet/blitz for fun (rated or unrated) before you reach higher rapid ratings, then enjoy Just be aware that for like 99.9% of chess players, it won't help for long-term improvement.

hi

Terminated800

Bullet isn’t real chess

Magic_of_youth

If your asking me..... NO bro try playing rapid more na learn from your mistakes and watch YouTube maybe for openings or tactics if you get good at rapid you will at blitz too

At the level of 500? No, i don't recommend it. Maybe switch to 5|5, which is still considered as blitz, and it is about as fast as 10 min.

Also, bullet isn't real chess if it is played below the level of 2000. GMs play better in bullet than a player with <2000 rating in blitz or rapid.

But my friend started bullet straight after rapid and he's climbing in bullet

I disagree because you'll get used to rapid but when you switch to blitz its harder because the time controls are shorter then rapid so it makes it hard to think

I kinda agree like rapid, classical and blitz all much more fun meanwhile in bullet literally no one knows what they are doing
