Is chess a game or a sport?

Yes, both.  Chess requires physical exertion of the brain.

Good idea! This way even a scholar's mate would burn a lot of calories.

Whether it is a sport, or a game, how does this affect your life? Answer: it doesn’t. By the standard English definition it is a sport, but most importantly why do you even care? There is no conclusive point to be made regardless.

In this country there is a certain amount of money for funding sport, but chess doesn't qualify. That is why we have gone downhill so badly in the world of chess.

From 1976-82 there was a TV series called The Master Game here. That was discontinued and as you know TV promotion is everything.

I grew up in a golden generation. Our schools had budding chess clubs. The standard of inter-club tournaments was very high so it wasn't just masters and grandmasters but even club players like myself.

That's probably why I'm around 1900s on this site in classic ratings. Blitz wasn't a big thing in my day.

Yeah that is kind of weird to be honest.  100 nations recognize chess as a sport, but not the UK, I guess your leaders don't want to support or advertise a game that might end up making the public smarter or more analytical.  Then again the leaders in the U.S. thrive off of the general public's idiocy as well.

It can be both, depending on how you chose to play it. And it can be more than game and sport too - add to the list: art, magic, sorcery, life, obsession and probably a few more.

It s a game that requires sportsmanship...

It s actually a sport idk maybe both odd question imo...

But somehow related I m kind of trying to study my own game and I can t seem to figure myself out imo I am got at exchanges but whenever I look at my own own games it seems like I always not literally buy mostly start off losing the exchanges and then start counter-punching..Is that a playing style or am I pushing too hard to try and relate chess to boxing???? As for sacrificing well in terms of boxing it s a bit like showing no respect to your opponent in the first round... it s extremely risky as it s like an extreme blow for blow boxing bout but I usually time it and pick off certain players especially if I have a history w/ em... funnily Enoch sacrificing does work for me w/ quite a high success on the ones I carry out however I usually find there is a low advantage I have won by or that the chess game/boxing bout was quite tiring and literally went the whole 12 round or a whole bloody match at least 40 moves

...Can anyone relate to me????
