Is Chess a "Nerd" game anymore?

going through the comments section and have only noticed one thing..nerds not liking been called nerds
yep. just found this thread. only the young worry about this. older nerds are too busy fixing the world. my nerdy colleagues (engineers) have been too busy churning out ventilators for covid. Our nerdy brothers and sisters that mastered biology and pharmacology have been too busy developing the drugs with some help from nerdy statisticians. My only advice, if you're dating a non-nerd then keep it to yourself. Not everyone has what it takes to fix the worlds problems.

I mean in my opinion, there are a lot of chess nerds. I would in some ways call myself one xD. However just because most(not all) of chess players are considered “nerds,” that doesn’t make chess itself a nerdy game. For example, you could learn just how to move your pieces, no strategy or anything. You certainly wouldn’t be considered a nerd

thanks for the compliment
*Relatable to many movies.*

Chess is nerdy. Own it.

Chess is nerdy. Own it.
Hmm.... you look chess as a nerd game but I find it cool.
This topic is decided by the point of view a person looks at chess. You may find it boring but others may find it interesting and if 99% people find it boring the 1% people find it cool.
If 99% birds can fly and 1% birds cannot we will still put them in birds category only.
Everyone has different opinions and I respect there opinions but in my opinion Chess is Cool.

Nerd is just a buzzword that has lost any meaning it carried due to overuse. Not that it had any meaning to begin with, anyways. Why should anyone be worrying if their hobbies are "for nerds"? How is it any different from a man not wanting to choose Peach in Mario Kart because he's afraid it'd be too girly? It's just a total waste of time and energy. Either play chess or don't, most people that aren't shallow enough to be able to hold a real conversation won't care.
