In sum what you and he have attempted to state is that chess is not a sport because no one's nose is broken playing. You might merely need to wait until after you beat me. lol Then you may tend to be more inclined to reference chess a sport!

It depends on what you would define a sport as. Sure, chess doesn’t require you to be PHYSICALLY active, but it does require you to be MENTALLY active. So in my opinion, yes.

OK so if it ain't a sport then a basic rules such as sportsmanship isn't required. If it is a sport, then it is more than just a competition (or game) we as players should be doing what we can to honour it s reputation. Personally I would say no. Just like I would say no to bobsleigh in being a form of transport. This argument really does need to end as interesting as it is. Just like many phrases such as "chess is an art" no it s not it s just a metaphor. There are always going to be opinions and facts. As far as the facts are concerned, according to mathematics chess is a game played between two players where white has the advantage and the amount of moves are equal to 20 quintillion grains of sand.
