Is Chess a sport?

Ok, so I heard a lot of people say that Chess is a sport. There is even a forum on here saying that Chess should be in the next Olympics. So, is Chess a sport???

In my opinion chess is not a sport. To me, to be a sport, you have to exert physical energy towards winning the game. Chess only requires you to sit in a chair and stare at the board. Dont get me wrong, I love chess, but its not a sport.

this makes sense....

WARNING - The following is a construct of an irrefutable valid argument. Olympic sports are governed by the World Anti Doping Association (WADA) and (CAS) the Court of Arbitration for Sport. Chess is also governed by (WADA) and (CAS). Ergo, chess has already been recognized as an international sport and could be and should be (opinion) in the Olympics.

PS: The (IOC) International Olympic Committee has already recognized chess as an Olympic sport so it remains a possibility to be in the Olympics one day.

Like all sports, chess has a defined set of rules and etiquettes. The International Chess Federation serves as the governing body of the sport of chess, and it regulates all international chess competitions. Additionally, the International Olympic Committee considers chess to be a sport.Dec 3, 2020

So the IOC says it is a sport, but not a physical sport.

Very interesting. I didn't know that the IOC had determined chess to be a sport. Thats good enough for me. Chess is officially a sport!

A sport is a sport and the IOC did not make that distinction between physical and mental you did.

No, it’s a game. Not a sport anymore than Clue is a sport. But if people want to call it a sport what do I care.
