Am i the only guy who doesn't know what Oedipal is?

I suppose not, sadly.

It's psychology 101.

Male toddlers want to have sex with their mom and kill their dad.

The female version is the Electra complex.

To Freud everything was about sex, and a personality was pretty much set in stone by age 5 or 6.

He was a nut job coke addict, but basically came up with the idea of the unconscious so, you know, sort of founded modern psychology so he's worth an historical footnote or two, but not much beyond that (because yeah, all the specifics are crazy).

legit reporting you for saying that.

Why?

I could argue that chess represents anything. Like I don't know... the weather?

You could, but because two of the most important characters in chess are explicitly gendered (King=Male, Queen=Female) it's inevitable that our own attitudes towards those archetypes will inform some part of our relationship with chess.

And probably because of this many casual players don't believe that there can be more than two queens on the board...

There can only be one Pfren haha.

Plus I'm not even an IM, so I doubt my expertise could make up for it.

All you so-called experts.....have any of you actually read Freud's chess-related analysis? Of course the theory is plausible, on a surface level.

How is chess Oedipal anyways?

Who are the children of the king and queen?

I would think that the players would be the children. The other pieces would in this analogy be citizens of our location? The more you think about it the less sense this theory makes
