Is Chess.com Only Good for Bltiz

So when I try to find 30 minute games on this website it always takes for ever and then the one time I got thru I play a guy 600-700 rating points higher than me. I never have any troubles finding a 10 minute blitz game though. This is frustrating cause I'm too new to play short time controls and really be able to think. Please let me know if there is any other way to be able to find longer games online.

Thanks

try playing 15 10.

I play 30 min games fairly often and find the pairing wait time and matchups to work the same as it does for blitz.

It's because your rated 562 in rapid. Just keep playing and your skill will rise and you'll find more even matches.

That's cause I'm no good no matter how much I study or practice angry.png

That shouldn't happen, practice definitely should help you improve unless you aren't actually "studying".

The problem is 10 minute games don't give enough to think but then if I play a 30 minute game I get put against a higher rated player which doesn't help me.

15|10 may not sound like much time, but it's not much different from g30 in practice, and it can save you in a pinch if your clock runs low.

Try daily chess then. Plenty of games and at your own pace.

Use this too. https://www.chess.com/article/view/study-plan-directory . Playing alot of chess won't necessarily make you better if you dont practice correctly, you have to study and practice correctly to really get alot better.

Unless you are playing slow games somewhere other than chess.com you are not "practicing".

Blitz and rapid might be good practice for a player that is already strong. They are worse than useless for a beginner.

15/10 is about the same time if you play a little fast..

??

Playing a stronger player is just what you want.  It will help you to improve much more than p;laying someone that makes as many mistakes and such bad mistakes as you are certain to make until you have more skill and experience.

Of course it won't improve your rating, but what are you really bothered about?  Your chess skill or the number beside your name?  You might be able to scrabble a more respectable rating by learning some cheap tricks and beating other beginners, but if you really want to become a good chess player then forget about ratings for a while. Concentrate on learning the basics and practicing them in games that are slow enough to let you think about all the things you are learning.

Auto-suggestion and a poor self-image contribute to staying weak.  Change your on-line name to something that makes you feel good about yourself.  A name like "PerpetuallyPatzer" can only make you believe that it is true.

Practice tactics a lot.  At your rating tactics are most effective way to improve.

Yes, it's just as good of an alternative to 30|0

Another idea is to play against the computer. You can set the strength by levels and can take as many minutes as you need per movement.

After I lose a game I analyze it with Lucas Chess, a free download. Tells me what I'm doing wrong and helps me to avoid all those stupid mistakes.
