It is documented that Al Capone (American Gangster) was a chess player.  Now, I ask anyone, would you dare call Al Capone a nerd? Smile

That's not very inclusive, now is it?  Is chess for nerds?  Yes.  Is chess for non-nerds?  Yes.  Chess is for everyone(except Canadians, of course).

Whats wrong with being a NERD anyhow? If you have a girlfriend(s), go to party(ies), earn a living, love a game and music, go to the movies once a while and a holiday every now and then, it puts you on a better edge than others being a NERD with all the above in your kitty.Laughing

But if you dont do any of the above... er... then pls start :)

I've Dj'd techno, trance and all kinds of other dance music at venues such as the Ministry of Sound in London. I surf and snowboard and have just finished a year of my law degree in the north of Sweden.

I love chess - I was taught by my best friend's Chilean father who used to play it completely mentally (as in no board or pieces, just in his head) whilst a political prisoner under the rule of Pinoche in the 1970s.

Generally speaking, the only people calling chess players "nerds" are those who have no understanding of the game and are too lazy, impatient or simply incapable of learning the rules.

Tell them to stuff that in their skanky crack pipe and smoke it.

I toured in punk bands for years.  I've played shows with bands such as Bad Religion, The Donnas, T.S.O.L., Anti-Flag, I've played on the Warped Tour, have multiple tattoos, and am known by friends and strangers as quite the ladies' man.  Am I a nerd?  Yes.  The other half of me does math for fun and plays D&D, MTG, chess, and video games.  I suppose it all depends on one's perspective.
