No I dont think Chess is good for me. It stresses my body to much. Its a fun game but the constant stress is bad for me.

Maybe you should learn to play… lagom!

Yeah that to. But it also the thing that I feel that I have to perform every time I play and I feel bad if I underperform or loose to people way lower rated. This also adds stress to me.

So for comparision, reading a books is very relaxing for me but playing Chess is not.

Without having any real knowledge in kbt, have you tried losing for a while to kinda decouple your own selfworth from performance in chess? It could lessen the love for the game but could also make it more relaxing where you don’t have to be best and always on top.

I dont try to loose on puspose but playing more games makes a loss feel less painfull. Like I had only one daily game and I figured out a win but I missed an important defensive move that I had to do first so because I did the wrong move order the game turned from winning into loosing instead. But it feelt way easier to handle the loss if I started to play more games because then I can atleast try to win an other game. Like playing one game and loosing will give me 100% loss. But if I instead play 6 games and win 3 and lose 3 then it is 50% winrate which feels way better and the 100% loss one game and it feels more manageable.

Good for getting better at problem-solving, but, like many have already stated, if you get too stressed and angry, it's probably not good for you.

the chess communities are not very sporting … the kids are better off playing … their school sports like soccer and baseball…

… it looks like most people get into chess to separate themselves from the rest of society  to feel falsely superior over it.  The stereotypes about this game and its communities seem to be true.

Astute observations, all very true.

Rated games gave me stress, so I switched to playing as “Guest” in Beginner level.  Unfortunately the ratio of intermediate/advanced players to beginner players in Beginner level is somewhere between 7/1 (low end) and 33/1 (high end), so I have to abort or abandon a LOT of games before finding a suitable player of equal ability for a fair game.  Evenly matched games are a lot of fun, very enjoyable, even when I lose.

Well, for me, I would go ahead and say that chess is indeed the most enjoyable activity in life.

I learned to not invest too much ego into the outcome and enjoy the fact that I can play some nice games at times. Statistically speaking, I am rated above most people on the website, so I choose to enjoy that as well. I slowly work on improving my game too. So, chess is an activity where I have a good deal of control and, when I learned to not stress over the game, I see no downside either. So, when it comes to the cost/benefit analysis, chess brings a great deal more benefits through enjoyment compared to the invested time and money. Most other activities in life - at least the way I see them - fall far below chess when it comes to the cost/benefit analysis. I would elaborate the point but then my post would be a very long read, so I will stop here. happy.png

If you like to be miserable and angry, then yes.

Chess is a good game for frustration and anger management. If you can't handle the  frustration and anger when you lose when you blunder, you can't deal with real life blunders and failure. You can train your emotional stability by playing chess.

Learn from mistakes is applied both in life and chess. Unfortunately many people takes LONG recovery time whenever they made a serious mistake in life. This Short Recovery Time can be trained iby playing chess. Ofc you must have that mindset. If you play chess in the spirit of Pure Fun, you get only Fun in return.
