I've always fun trying to resolve chessproblems, looking to the games between strong grandmasters, they have played and finally, playing chess by my self against other chessplayers.

Why would that be not important ?

The ability for people to enjoy community and to play is important for a healthy society. In that it is one of many trivialities which serve that end, chess has some importance. But that is from the role it serves not something intrinsic to itself.
