Well, I'm Chinese. In fact, we often play CHINESE CHESS instead of chess. CHINESE CHESS is similar to it, and older. In China, chess is called WESTERN CHESS or INTERNATIONAL CHESS.
Due to SIMILAR, many Chinese not only good at CHINESE CHESS but also good at CHESS.

haha I'm actually really bad at chinese chess (I know that we call it "xiangqi" in the west, but when I visit China it's always directly translated as "chinese chess")
The only reason why I beat people is because I can sit there and think for a long time

Chinese are prretty good at kung fu, and I heard it takes a lot more practice to perfect than chess.
