I think its Odds on that Ding will not likely be seen again over the chess board, he is currently having treatment for severe depression, that blunder he made in that last game of the W.C.C. is so hard to come back from, it would be tough for any normal 1700 rated player to recover as its such a basic ending so for a G.M its no surprise he as been in meltdown ever since, People would say " Any one can Blunder?" but one basic thing you learn and remember are basic endgame positions especially on Rook endings so its even tougher for a G.M to recover so I don't think Ding will return to active chess anytime soon. Sad as he is a very nice guy and in dark place at moment, I wish him well!
