Personally, I hate playing black. White has reign over the game and starts out on the attack. Sure, it's easier to play black as you're responding to threats instead of having to play with as concrete a plan - but it's not nearly as fun to be constantly on the defensive and having less space. It's like having the advantage in tennis. The player who's in control is hitting the ball harder and harder onto different areas of the court, while the receiving player is just trying to hit the ball back and is more or less waiting for a mistake from the advantageous player to give him the initiative. The problem is that in chess, unlike tennis, if your opponent wants to do almost literally nothing when they're playing white you can't do too much to punish them for it (case in point: London System).
intresting nice post. thanks.
I admit thats what i do wait for a mistake and when I see one i capitalize on it. While i build up defence on the king side I also attack on the queen side by advancing pawns and using my queen side rook and when white adresses the attack on that side i am normaly able to sneek behind any defences and trap the king.
I normaly play as white when playing the computer but recently have switched to playing black more often. I found that i have had more suceess and like it more. I love playing the defenses and building a solid defence around the king then when white comes in to attack i am able to intercept the pecies one at a time instead of trying to penetrate a defence as white.
Are there many people out there that feel this way or is it just me.
