To me, No! (although it can help...) But "If it is to be it is up to you!"

Determination, Unshakable Concentraion, Drive, Motivation, a Greatest Goal, The Spirit of never giving up of course, (ur relegious belief), Discipline Etc. [I know, easier said than done, hehe] ...believe me, there are no short cuts to success.

Althogh a great coach can never make you a great player, it is mostly up to you. I say, You can show a person the way to the light but you can never force them to go to the light. It is like the narrow-gate to heaven when the road to it, is very very extremely hard when only few people make it there.

It woulkd certainly help you improve greatly. What do you mean by a great player?

I would say necessary, but not sufficient.  Although I'd add the caveat that the great teacher(s) need not be actual human persons you can interact with.

This is a good thread, I was expecting alot of posts in this thread, but I guess the "can a 1300 player beat a 2700 player?" thread is better than this thread. Strange:)

A great teacher is a must for aspiring great players. Those without potential will be abandoned by the teacher. Only in rare exceptional case would someone become a great player without a great teacher.
