Haha, I was looking at all these comments and reconsidered myself being a good chess player, lol. I think if you put the effort into chess, you can do it. In like 3 months I came from around 300 I came to around 1000 blitz, and I'm working on bullet, and I thought it would take a couple of years to become FM or GM or something, right? Okay, well I feel like it depends on the amount of time and effort you put in everyday, I just do this cause I find it fun.
is it possible for me to become a GM in 5 years???

lol now that MincraftProGamer-1 knows that he/she will lose if he battles with someone more than his/her own points so he is shutting his/her mouth up
it is possible, if you are a superGM to begin with and you play badly here and there. otherwise it is not realistic. but you might prove me wrong, so there's your motivation.

uh no

lol
I’ve been playing chess for years now...
and I’m still a patzer.
So you have a chance ig, if you’re super talented, but 12-15 years is more likely lol

It is possible, but not worth the effort.
Yes, especially since the probability is so slim. You are way more likely to just improve a little and plateau at a new capability level.

Don't listen to people who think they know the best way to get to GM, I don't know the best way too, just saying, a good minset would be setting your priorites straight as in playing video games less and focusing more on chess, ignore bullets and forums and do tactics anayalyze your mistakes.

dont get his hopes up..
us not being gm doesnt mean we dont know the process. IM can be achieved for normal people with very hard work.
I did some research about it before. If you are not GM by your 15 already, then you can forget about it. Maybe you can devote your life on it and live like a antisocial nerd and "may" make some progress and it is still not guaranteed.
Im the strongest player on this thread by far, ill crush all of ye who says he cant do it, and i believe in him, so Ya be quite, he can become a GM
wdym. my coach (GM emil anka) started playing chess when he was 12. he became a gm in his 30s.
benjamin finegold became a gm at his 40 but these people already show some skill at their early lifes. at this spesific example of ben, he delayed his career as it seems. i dont know how his life was because he was already a USCF master at the age of 14, life mastet at 15, senior master at 16, international master at 20, and grandmaster at 40. idk why he waited after 20 till 40..
anyway.. there are some special exceptions.. but in general if your not into it before your 14 your chance is gone.
it is like learning mother language.. you can still learn and speak a language but not like a native..

His chance is gone? maybe thats just for you, he could do it
@super108
You definitley are correct it depends on your dedication, time and effort towards the game. Others have more time and others have less time(for the game) but depending on what you do will depend on how far you will go.
Theoretically if everyone put in the same time and effort, everyone could be a master, however it is true that some people would be higher than others just soley because of Chess IQ, dedication and unique skillsets and styles. However still among this if people where this attached to the game them the uprising wouldn't be to difficult, just would take the effort and time put into it.
