You will have to try VERY HARD to become a GM in 5 years.  If I were you, I would be setting a goal to hit 1800 in 2 years (with a lot of study time and practice time.)

That's a very low target, improvement is not linear. If he'd take 2 years to get to 1800, I doubt he'd ever become a GM let alone in 5 years.

Guys - stop making fun of him: I played him a few games.

I made some mistakes intentionally and he caught some of them.  I also intentionally blundered and he missed some of those.  He's not bad, but I think he can improve and at least be 2000 in the next few years.  As to GM, it is very unlikely, but anything really is possible like that.

You have been playing chess for 1 year so far and you're rated 991 in blitz. I don't think you will become a GM in the next five years. Maybe in 10 years if you stop playing minecraft, and trihard chess.

To be official, you have to play lots of games OTB.  I mean playing at the level of FM even if the rating is not official.  - Like me { I play at the rating of 2200 though my rating is not officially that high.
