Is it possible to completely stop cheating in online chess?

Basically engine use is unstoppable in online chess. There is nothing you could do to prevent that. You could try download software that does not allow any program besides the chess software to run on that computer while that software is on. However then the guy who wants to cheat could just keep a second computer right next to the one he is using and cheat away to his heart's content.

Is there any foolproof way to prevent cheating in online chess.

Only way I could think of is to have arenas setup. A player will have to go to that arena and log in and play on a software, while not having any electronic device on him (phones, a laptop, etc). And we all know that that plan is not going to work.

No. I shift my expectations. I use chess.com to 'train', aware that 10-15% I'm playing an engine.

The irony is that if you discuss ways of detecting cheating in public, you're telling the cheaters what you're looking out for and they can try and figure out ways around it: it's one of the reasons why discussion of cheating is not allowed in the public forums.

Try discussing it in the Cheating Discussion Club.
