Is it rude to announce "Check" in OTB chess?

I usually say check during blitz when my opponent makes an illegal move because they didn't see the check.
"check"

One does not announce check.
What do you do if someone announces "check" to you Garry?

I usually say nothing, but if I were irritated at the person, I might say something like, "Yes, I saw that I was in check as soon as you made the move."
Another option, upon making my reply move, would be to say something like "Knight to e2, getting out of check." (I know, technically against the rules, but it would send the appropriate message.)
Kasparov has never struck me as insecure. But then he is a bit excitable. Maybe a bit of juvenile insecurity hidden away in there.

I do not announce check. If my opponent does not see it and tries to make an illegal move, I tap the checking piece and point to his King. This spares the beginner more dignity than verbally announcing "check" so that his inexperience is made known to all who hears.
If check is announced to me, I take no offense.

I have NEVER heard someone announce "garde" when attacking the Queen. That is funny.
My mom to this day will not let me capture her queen unless I have previously informed her "guard your queen".

the mom story on the Queens gets a like👍
it's nice to read of families still playing board games together.... assuming mom is not playing online 😊

Why do you think that it is crap that they beat you in a nailbiter? They played better or you messed up.It's not like it's their fault for winning.
See, even you've done it before. I don't think they mean it to be rude... especially when someone gets lucky at the very end and wins... they know they'll probably lose next game, so they decide it's better to not play you.
Of course it can be really frustrating to lose like that, but if they don't want a rematch it's like a small compliment

It was normal when I played back in the 80's to say check, not rude in any way shape or form. Its only more recently where people seem to have some sort of mental problem with it being said, in particular with their ego. Stop or I'm telling. What a bunch of wussies. Only in the last decade where people mainly play on computer and the computer doesn't say it has it gotten this bad. Why don't you research it, it was considered sporting, and gentlemanly to announce check, not to demean your opponent, definitely not to insult them, that is just plain absurd. Its like a fencer saying engarde. Also I would not resign until I knew I had lost a game period.

I just point it out if my opponent tries to make a move without noticing the check.
Once you get past a certain playing level, it's pretty rare for check to be missed by anyone—so saying it isn't really required.
It'd be like unnecessarily yelling out "Castle!" when you castle. Or "En passant!", "Rook lift to third rank!", or "King walk!"
Lol

So, is it okay for a player to announce "check" when he makes a move that puts the opponent in check, or is it considered rude?
It's against the rules of chess. There is suppose to be no talking during the game. It's rude to break this rule.
I don't know what the FIDE rules are, as I'll never play under FIDE rules. As far as USCF rules are concerned, here is the actual rule:
"12F. Calling check not mandatory. Announcing check is not required, and is rare in high-level tournaments. It is the responsibility of the opponent to notice the check, and a player who does not may suffer serious consequences. A player may announce check. See also Rule 10, The touched piece."
So, announcing check is allowed by USCF rules. However, to an experienced player, having to listen to multiple check announcements can be irritating or distracting. It doesn't really bother me, unless the announcement is made in a derisive or disrespectful manner. Also, in a tournament room, other players can be distracted by having to hear check announcements all day long.

So what? Playing the same person more than once is boring to me unless they're a friend. And then if you win, what? We're supposed to play again to break the tie? Maybe you should just learn how to win the first time.
