Is it still possible to expertise!

Hello everybody

I am a chess lover but could not invest any serious time for it since my childhood. I am now 39 but still have a great zeal for the game. Till now I have played with only my friends and families and that too occasionally. I even don't know much of theories behind the game.

I want to know if I start learning the game seriously at this age and invest three hours everyday, will it be possible to become a respected player someday? Or it's too late for that? If possible, please help me with a thorough guideline. I mean, what to do, what's not, how should I spend these hours to make it completely fruitful and how long it may take to reach my goal. Oh! by the way, don't judge me with my current ratings because I have won only two games so far here and both of the games were played by my neighbour. I think, I am tactically a complete beginner with an experience of about 200 games.

Thank you for taking your time to read this happy.png

Of course. After looking at just one of your games, it is obvious that you are well beyond the beginner stage.

The study guide posted here are a good place to find a list of things to study.

@notmtwain: Hey those games were actually played by my neighbour so please don't judge me by those. I think, I am tactically a complete beginner with an experience of about 200 games played with friends and families, that's all.

No one can predict a chessplayer's long-term potential.  If you enjoy the game and want to get better, go for it!  I am trying to become a master at age 52, which is perhaps not likely to happen but I'm having a great time trying.

@WCM mkkuhner: oh! that's quite impressive and encouraging. Why don't you show me a path to follow!
