Is Kramnik's "Berlin Wall" the end of 1.e4?

Ever since Kasparov was unable to break through Kramnik's Berlin Defence to the Ruy Lopez, the "Berlin Wall" where Queens are exchanged very early, has caused many of the worlds strongest1.e4 players to readily accept a draw early in the game.Nakumara recently did this when facing Kramnik and although his draw acceptance was understandable given who his opponent was, it is still a dillema that has not yet been resolved. This topic is therefore an inquiry as to what if anything can be done by players with the white pieces. The following diagram is the critical position after 9.Nc3

Well pretty much anything will cause top players to accept a draw early in the game.

If there was a vote for the "most ugly and boring system" the Berlin Wall would be my favourite. Iggitt !!! Tongue out

OK, but if the world's elite can't find a chink in the Berlin, why do you think chess.com's members can?

I'm not too concerned about GM problems, all I know is when I tried playing this line as Black I had awful results with it.

Sublime play by Kasparov. I had no idea what he was up to.

Isn't the board in the OP the position after nc3, so it's black to move?

Ghostly14

Well unless my opponent and I are both world class players and happen to play that exact variation I am not very concerned...

I think that in the next world championship e4 will be played because the berlin has been around for a while and it isn't as unbeatable as a used to be. Just like the real berlin wall

Another day, another unbelievably and extraordinarily stupid topic on chess.com

Remember the unbelievably stupid have as much right to enjoy themselves as the unbelievably elite. Also they outnumber the unbelievably elite on every chess site and they always will.

As Black, I might adapt the Berlin Wall, but I'll stick to the Scotch as White.  Few players enjoy the Scotch!

I beg to differ.

Previously, Kramnik was encouraged not to play the Berlin, but he didn't listen and went on to discover his amazing creation...
