Is Playing Blitz That Bad?

As long as you read books and solve puzzles, you can play bullet and blitz.

Blitz doesn't require much calculations. If you play blitz a lot, I think, you'll get used to not calculating much in slower time control. And I think, that's what the masters mean.

In the blitz game above, I out calculated my opponent.

I think you will tend to get lazy in calculating if you play too many consecutive 3 min games.

This is subjective from people to people...

I'm pretty certain Asparagus will be able to calculate deeply even in his transition to longer time controls.

My rating in Daily chess (the only longer form of the game I play) is still around the level it was 8 or 9 years ago so playing Blitz chess (and even Bullet during part of that time) has had next to no effect on that so I don't see it being bad for chess skill.

There's a misconception, usually among elitists, that everyone is here to keep learning and improving their chess.  A vast majority of people who play on online chess sites merely do so to have fun.  If they happen to improve a little or a lot as a side effect of that then fine, but it isn't their main aim.

Of course, you get those who post a thread in the forum asking if people think they'll be able to make it to GM or not, but despite the regularity of such silly threads these folk are still a minority.  For those who are really looking to improve you do whatever works best for you.  If that means not playing Blitz then don't play Blitz.
