once a guy refused to type "gg" after a game with me so i drove the 17 hours to his house and man handled him and grabbed his hand and forced him to type "gg." "GG!!!" in fact. dude called the police. what a total jerk!
Is "gg" too much to ask?

Sorry, I still feel bad bout that.
GG

Yeah, I know the type. They never respond. Makes me want to punch them in the face.

What's important, though, is that you taught him a valuable lesson about appropriate behaviour. I bet he types "gg" next time -- the world is now a slightly better place.

speaking of remember stuff, once i played over the board... i lost. oh did i lose. anyway my smug opponent was all in my face with his offer of a handshake and friendly "good game," so i crushed his hand.

The GG is also equally perturbing. I dont know, I guess some people are just sore losers. But even if I lose, and they genuinely played well, and I was at a loss all game, I tell them that they played really well. Nothing. Oh well, at least it seems to lie mainly with players from certain nationalities...aherm..americans..cough. Just joking! *but not really*
Actually, the reason that I find much more americans rude than anyone else is probably because the sheer amount of americans playing...probably..
Dude, you're an American! Anyway, I do believe that--even measured per capita--citizens of the U.S. are much more inconsiderate than citizens of most other countries.

americans! don't even get me started! do you guys know that americans think they invented the TV? the TV! how thick is that?

An American, (Philo Farnsworth) did, in part, invent the television. It was a combination of several different people whose ideas were all taken together to form the modern version of the television.
Most experts in the field generally attribute the invention of the modern television to Farnsworth.
The younger generation of Americans, (mine), are generally extremely apathetic, which comes across as rude. Really, they aren't, they just don't care.

I've got some more travel coming up -- I'll see if I can single-handedly bump the Americans up to spot #7.
There's one nationality on that list that I won't name but that I am quite surprised to see in the spot it's in -- if there's any validity to the list then my experience has consistently been less than representative.

Is that list worst to best? It sounds like it's best to worst, which makes a lot more sense, given that the Japanese are #1, and are far and away the most polite people I know.

Ernest O. Lawrence invented the color TV but he was better known for his work with Dr. Edward Teller (father of the hydrogen bomb).
If you want to talk about inventions, the Nazi's were flying jets and had prototypes for the Space Shuttle, ICBM's and Stealth bombers/fighters long before the USA. Their aerospace industry was easily 50 years ahead of the rest of the world. When the war ended, some of the scientists and engineers went East. Some went west. We all know the rest of the story.
Yes, it's a very good thing they didn't have the ability to actually produce their prototypes in mass quantity. They were ahead in technology at the time, but merely having the idea doesn't mean you were first.
Otherwise, DaVinci invented the submarine.

Conceptualization doesn't make you first, but building a working prototype does. Where did the mass production criterion come from?

gg should not be required, especially if it would be a lie! Feeling obligated to say "gg" everytime a game is done is like turning off your computer when you go to the bathroom just to save a cent, but then you have to turn it back on! What is it about some words on the internet that are so comforting? It's all about winning the game. In fact if I lost a game and my opponent said "gg", it would almost make me feel worse, because it's as if he is acting as a superior person to say gg just because he won a game. Or things like "tough loss", which in reality only make me feel worse about a loss despite the intention. Most people come here just to play chess, and you have to respect that.
Cursing at the opponent though, is rude. Don't try to make the person who lost feel bad, even if you feel he got lucky. Once in a while I'll type "god damn it" or something, but it's not really directed at the player, I'm just really annoyed. In fact most negative comments are probably just being mad at yourself, and you're taking it out on the other player who tried to beat you.

next you're gonna tell me an american invented the Windows Operating System and the Ford motorcar!
Hardeharhar. Yep, Americans did invent that junk.

americans! don't even get me started! do you guys know that americans think they invented the TV? the TV! how thick is that?
I thought for years that Americans invented the automobile. I was more than a little surprised when I went to an auto show at a German Schloss and saw some late-1800 model Daimlers.
I have allways wondered who invented the f**k "gg", lol
