Hey @ebefl — you're not alone in feeling this lately!
Some of the novelty or “themed” bots (especially the newer ones) don’t always play like their rating suggests. They can be wildly inconsistent — sometimes super passive, other times surprisingly sharp! It’s possible their rating reflects a kind of intended style or challenge level, rather than a true Elo strength like you'd expect from a regular engine.
Also, if you’re tired, tilted, or just having an off day, it can feel like even a basic bot is out for blood 😂 Happens to the best of us!
If you're ever unsure, try playing a few different bots at the same rating and see if you notice a pattern — it might help confirm if it's the bot or just one of those days.
Keep going, you’ve made it up to the 2000 bot before, and that’s no small feat! 💪♟️
I have played the bots on and off for 3 years and worked my way up to facing the 2000 bot. I am nowhere near that good, but can usually beat them after a practicing.
Yesterday I played a 1300 bot, and was smashed time and time again. Today I am losing to a novelty 800 bot! He is destroying me. So is something going on with the bots or is something going on with me?
