Is there a chess variant that simply starts at the middle game?

I haven't been able to find it here, maybe I need to look harder.  If it doesn't exist I'm sure there are lots of games that computer analysis can sift through or randomly generate that people can start playing without worrying about their openings.

Seems like a fun idea to me

Edit: Im aware of the Fischer Chess variant that makes not knowing the opening playable but I was more interested in having preset pieces played out from what would be a traditional opening line

Yes, it is called a "Chess Puzzle".  Some people like Jeremy Silman have written books filled with middlegame positions to puzzle through.

That's not what Im interested in, it seems like you just decided to come into a post and sh*t on it with an attempt to be snarky.  Those "Chess puzzles" are typically a set of forcing moves with a mate or material gain.

Most middle games of chess dont immediately have a set of forcing moves at hand that result in immediate material gain or mate.

You can join a daily game tournament. Often the tournaments have all games start in a given position

I was seriously suggesting you look at Silman's books like "The Amateur's Mind" to find difficult middlegame positions that you can puzzle over for hours.  They are not simple mates or piece wins.

ok then I apologize for misunderstanding your intent.  I own those books and those puzzles are designed with a specific bit of strategy to implement or understand.

I would be interested in interacting with another person that can challenge my understanding of a position and play it through to the end
