The age of the Internet and online chess with its many fast time controls has changed the way we look at and play chess.

Is there a right or wrong way to play chess? I never learned to play OTB or slow time controls. I haven't or don't want to put 100s of hours into mainstream chess opening theory. Does it hurt the art of chess to play the way you want if it goes against what is seen as "right" as long as you are trying your best to win?

The right way to play chess is to know the rules of the game and play by those rules. After all it is the rules that define the game. I think it is as simple as that.

For me personally, it's a little bit like other certain activities. If you like it, if you really enjoy it, if your playing partner makes the experience better, trust me, you will not need the internet to know you are doing it right.

There's that activity and something like wine drinking that it could be comparable too I guess. There's wine snobs who suggest that they are above other wine drinkers by the types they drink and the way they drink it. But it all just goes down and comes out the same holes.
