Is there a young chess player who can equel Magnus?

maybe karjakin can draw him. If we want someone in the level of magnus carlsen we should wait till one day will born the man.

its obvious. Fabiano Caruana hes younger than magnus and is a 2700ish

How so?

Carlsen was 13 when he made GM, Caruana was a month shy of turning 15 when he did it, and Caruana is less than 2 years younger than Carlsen, hardly a big deal.

I think there are a few players who would have a good chance.  Kramnik - his endgame is also very good so Magnus wouldn't have the same advantage that he did against Anand.

Aronian - Has an awesome style I really like where he embraces positions of material equivalence more frequently than his peers.  These open up many possibilities and would lead to an exciting match.

Then in the next couple of years I think both Caruana and Karjakin have a very good chance as both are still improving.

After that it is impossible to say as he is probably still a child.

the point of this thread is naming young players

I didn't get that from the op.  IMO Aronchuck gave a valid and correct answer.

Comrade_Jackal

Which is a completely ridiculous thing to try and do as young players are just so far away from the Elite how can you possibly know if they have the potential to join the Elite let alone challenge and beat Magnus.  Or indeed give up chess as so many youngsters do.  Is Magnus going to improve or decline?  What time frame are we talking about.  Stupid Question.

by young im sure he was talking about under 21 players and there are plenty strong ones already in their 2600s or 2700s

guguloi

I can beat Carlsen without using my eyes

Ubik42

I can beat Carlsen with my shoes, provided Ivanov lends me a pair.

i can probably beat Carlsen, just not at chess.

ajttja

fabiano caruana or maybe anish giri

If there were someone running through the ranks--I think the chess scene would know about it. I think Carlsen is in a class by himself at the moment.

Carlsen is just amazing, I wonder when he'll break 2900?

you think he will break it? i would rather see two very strong young players playing over the title then one far stronger than anyone else. Who wants to be carlsen's student? if it is the same with him as with Garry then there will be someone coming soon to take his place!

I think its a question of when he will break it not if.  Every GM commentator I have heard talk about Carlsen always say he still has room to grow, and he is only 30 points away from 2900 now.  Kasparov didn't reach his full strength till the late 90's or almost fifteen years after becoming champion.  I really think we have a chance of seeing Magnus become the undisputed best player in history by all measures.

CoenJones

yes, there are many alcohol fueled teens out there who could make good work of him with a baseball bat ;)
