Theoretically less. In reality the number of possible positions is bigger than number of atoms in Universe.

Given the vast complexity of chess, with its nearly 10^120 possible game variations and the notion that it can theoretically continue indefinitely without repetition, can we ever truly define an 'end' to chess?
